adverb


Lesson 5
~Adverb~
副詞

1.     An adverb can modify:
verb/adjective/another adverb/preposition/phrase/conjunction/clause/sentence
修飾動詞、形容詞、其他副詞、介詞、片語、連接詞、子句、或一整句
2.     Types
(1) time: ago, often, already, today, before, now, soon,…….(修飾動詞)
You should come to school early.
(2) place: here, above, down, within,…….(修飾動詞)
You should not go there.
(3) manner性狀: actually, softly, happily, successfully…
Little girls sing sweetly. (修飾動詞 sing)
You have been unreasonably angry with her. (修飾形容詞 angry)
He can run wonderfully fast. (修飾副詞 fast)
Happily the old man did not die. (修飾一整句)
(4) degree程度: very, quite, rather, much, …
His reply pleased the teacher very much. (修飾動詞 pleased)
That man was extremely rude. (修飾形容詞 rude)
      You speak so eloquently. (修飾副詞 eloquently)
(5) mood語氣: certainly, probably, perhaps, apparently …
The rain will probably end soon. (修飾動詞 end)
      Certainly I will stand by you. (修飾一整句)
(6) affirmation/negation肯定/否定: yes, no, not, sure, never, ….
She will never do such a thing. (修飾動詞 do)
      It’s not less nutritious than rice. (修飾副詞 less)
      No, I would never betray my family. (修飾一整句)
(7) relative adverb關係副詞
Examples:
I will tell you where he was born. (relative adverb)
Tell me the time when you can come.
Nobody knows the reason why he refused.
The thing is how I should explain.
I don’t know who you are.
(8) interrogative adverb疑問詞:what, when, where, which, how…..
  Examples:
  What are you doing?
  How have you been?
  Which one is correct?
3. Position 副詞擺放的位置
 as close as possible before/after the word it modifies
大多是靠近它所修飾的字,前方或後方
He walked slowly, spoke little, and never laughed, but often played.
      slowly modifies walked
      little modifies spoke
      never modifies laughed

      often modifies played
