The student has learned to think directly in English without knowing it. For instance, if you ask him how he knows the answer to a question, he might not be able to explain it, but he just knows how. This is the result I want----using the language spontaneously without thinking.

影片: 文法教學Teaching Grammar

分享教學影片以前,先來推薦一些較權威的文法網站,上網查文法的人越來越多,網路上的資訊五花八門,有對的也有錯的,該如何分辨資料來源的公信力呢?以下提供美國芝加哥大學Writing Program (http://writing-program.uchicago.edu/resources/grammar.htm所建議的文法網站,我再經過篩選而得的清單:
Some authoritative grammar websites, suggested by The University of Chicago, are as follows:

http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/
http://grammar.about.com/
http://papyr.com/hypertextbooks/grammar/
http://public.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/
http://andromeda.rutgers.edu/~jlynch/Writing/

課程:被動語態
Lesson: Passive Voice

目標:知道如何使用被動態的句子
Aim: know how to use sentences with passive voice

學生:國中生、初級、國中英語、第一次聽全英文講解
Students: at junior high, elementary English level, their first time to be lectured in English

班級: 大小班制皆適合
Class: suitable for both big and small classes

備註
Remark

一般文法教學,會把例句寫出,然後講解該句的文法規則,免不了要提起一堆文法名稱、詞類位置、動詞變化、句構說明、詞性、時態辨認….等等一堆規則,有時候越講越複雜,學生是越聽越混淆,在還不會說和應用的情況下,就先死背文法規則,於是不易牢記學過的文法,又無法自在地以英語溝通,最後就是兩頭空。
Normally, grammar teaching starts with writing example sentences on the board then explaining about the rules, so some grammar terms are inevitably mentioned when the rules are taught. However, the more the rules are analyzed, the more the students get confused. They are often forced to memorize the rules before they can apply the language to their daily lives, so they can neither remember what's been taught easily nor freely communicate with others. As a result, they end up falling between two stools.

In stead, my teaching is reversed. First of all, example sentences are presented, but the rules are not explained. Then the sentence pattern is introduced to guide the students to orally make sentences that fit the pattern. During the process, they are expected to comprehend the rules and pattern by generalizing all the example sentences. The target grammar terms won't be mentioned until I make sure they know how to use the language. An easy way, like using signs, pictures and key words, is usually used to explain the pattern. In this way, I teach them how to apply first then point out the pattern a little bit. As a result, the students can understand the rules more easily even though they are lectured in English.

教學流程Teaching Steps

1. 列出教過的動詞並複習它們的過去式及過去分詞
List the verbs they have learned. Review their past tense and past participles.

2. 示範如何將主動語態句改成被動語態
Demonstrate how to change active voice into passive voice.

3. 請自願學生每人造一個主動態句子,寫在白板上,大家一起改成被動態
Ask some volunteers to make sentences with active voice. The teacher writes them on the board and has the class practice changing them into passive voice.

4. 告訴學生剛剛改過的句子,就叫作被動語態句
Tell them that the sentences they just learned are passive voice ones.
5. 讓他們看著許多例句,點出主動態與被動態的不同,加強對被動語態的理解 Ask them to point out the differences between active and passive voice to reinforce their comprehension on passive one.

6. 兩個學生為一組練習,一人造句則另一人改成被動態,角色輪流交換,老師走動巡視練習狀況及輔導 Pair them up. When one says active voice sentences, the other one must change them into passive voice. They have to take turn to change roles. The teacher must walk around to check their practices and offer help.

7. 寫被動語態的練習卷 Do written exercises on passive voice.

影片: 生字教學 Film: Teaching Vocabulary

分享全英文教生字的例子,由於學生羞於露臉,部分內容以影片呈現,其餘以文字說明。
Here is an example of teaching vocabulary in English. On account of the students' privacy, part of it is presented in the film, and the rest of it is shown in writing.

學生: 國中生、國中英語程度、第一次聽全英文講解
Students: Taiwanese, at junior high, elementary English level, and the first time to be lectured in English

適合班級:小班制
Suitable for small class

備註
Remark

1. 由於學生從未上過全英文講解課程,預計每人的聽力可能有些差異,所以一開始放慢講解速度,之後視學生上課表現,調整講解速度。
Since the students have never been lectured in English, there is somewhat discrepancy in their listening comprehension. Therefore, the lecture was quite slow at first, then the speed was adjusted to fit the students' comprehension depending on their performance.

2. 講解特色:因為是初級班,除了放慢講解速度,老師盡量使用簡短的字句做重點說明,以免有人聽不懂,所以使用了比較、舉例、肢體語言等技巧,幫助學生理解老師的說明。
Due to their English proficiency, simple words and brief sentences are used to explain the lecture lest any one of them wouldn't understand it. Also, the techniques such as comparison, examples, body languages, and facial expression are used to help them understand the lecture more easily.

字彙課程:形容詞生字
Vocabulary Lesson: adjectives
目標:讓學生認識生字,並能應用在句子當中
Aim: recognize the new words and know how to apply them to sentences.

教學流程
Teaching Steps

1. 定義形容詞
Define adjectives.

2.  複習學過的形容詞 (影片)
Review the adjectives they have learned. (film)

3.  介紹新的形容詞生字 (影片只呈現部分生字為例)
Introduce some new adjectives. (Present just three of them in the film.)

4.  在句中填入適當的形容詞 (影片只呈現部分)
Fill out the proper adjectives in the sentences. (Present just three of them in the film.)
5. 活動:全班起立,老師說一個句子,學生說出最符合該句的形容詞,最快說出正確生字的學生先坐下,到最後,看誰是最後一個站著囉!以增添學習趣味及練習的專注力。
Activity: Have the class stand up. When the teacher says a sentence, they compete to say the adjective (new word) related to the sentence. Whoever speaks it out first gets to sit down first. Finally, let's see who the lastest standing one is. This is to create interesting atmosphere and draw their attention on the practice.

6. 請學生在練習本上造句,造句的同時要牢記所有生字的拼字,而且限時完成。老師走動巡視造句情況,給予指導。 Have the students make sentences with the new words in the workbook within a limited time. Meanwhile, they have to memorize the spelling of the words, and the teacher must walk around to guide each student.

7. 時間一到全班停筆,讓學生互相交換練習本,討論彼此的句子是否有誤,老師巡視討論情況。 When time is up, all the students must stop writing. Have them exchange their workbooks, dicuss about each other's sentences, and see if there are mistakes. During the discussion, the teacher must walk around to check their sentences.

8. 老師將錯誤的造句寫出來,全班檢討。
The teacher writes their wrong sentences on the board to remind them to avoid the same errors.

9. 最後測驗剛教過的生字 Finally, the students take a quiz on the new words.
