定冠詞the

1. the……= 這個 (this)/那個 (that)….
Sam has a house. The house was bought by his father.
2. the……= 這些 (these)/那些 (those)….
The girls are in the classroom, but the boys are out.
3. play musical instruments 彈、奏、吹樂器
play the piano, play the drum, play the flute, play the guitar, …..
4. some names 某些名稱
l 公共機關：the White House, the Red Cross Hospital , the Golden Gate Bridge
也有例外情況，碰到例外就死記囉！
l 字尾為複數的專有名詞：the United States , the Alps , the United Nations, …..
l 朝代： the Ming Dynasty, ……
l 江河湖海洋：the Pacific Ocean, the Suez Canal, the Taiwan Straits
Exception (例外)：以江河湖海洋的字眼開頭，不用加the
l 森林：the Amazon Rainforest, …
l 船艦： the Victoria, the Queen Mary, …..
l 鐵道： the Taipei Metro= the MRT, the Taiwan
l 帝國：the Roman Empire , …….
l 島：the Green Island
l 港灣：the Persian Gulf , the Bay of Bangal……….
Exception (例外)：Bay 放在尾巴時，不用加 the
James Bay, Hudson Bay , ………..
l 書報雜誌：the Bible, the Daily News, the New York Times, ………..
Exception (例外)：以A或人名開頭的書報雜誌，不用加 the

5. ~~language 某某語言
the English language = English
the French language = French
6. ~~of ~~ (~~的~~)
the name of the book, the end of the month, most of the people, one of the pens, ….
7. sequence 第幾…..
the first, the second, the third, the fourth, the fifth, ………….
8. superlative adjective 最~~的
the oldest, the biggest, the worst, the most beautiful, ……….
9. family name 家庭/家族
theWang family = the Wangs 王家人/ the Wright Brothers 萊特兄弟………
10. the + ~~ 國人＝ 全體國民
the Taiwanese = all Taiwanese people
the English= all British people
the Americans = all American people
the Japanese = all Japanese people
11. the + adj = adj + people
the poor = poor people
the rich = rich people
the weak = weak people
12. The ….. , the…… 越….就越….
